The City
A green capital on a human scale
Ljubljana is the capital of Slovenia and a compact
European city where urban life, green spaces and
the Ljubljanica River are closely connected.
The historic city centre has been closed to regular
car traffic since 2008, creating extensive pedestrian
areas and making walking and cycling important parts
of everyday mobility. Ljubljana was also named
European Green Capital in 2016.
From a Slow Tourism perspective, Ljubljana offers
opportunities to experience a destination at a slower
pace through local mobility, public spaces, riverside
areas and connections between urban life and nature.

Ljubljanica River
The Ljubljanica runs through the historic
centre and connects bridges, public spaces,
